Air Fryer Nachos are the perfect combination of crispy, cheesy, and delicious, bringing your snacking experience to a whole new level! This delightful dish has roots in Mexican cuisine, where nachos originated in the 1940s in the border town of Piedras Negras, Mexico. A staple at parties, game days, or family movie nights, these nachos are made in an air fryer for a healthier twist without sacrificing flavor.
Ingredients
Scale:
8 ounces tortilla chips (choose sturdy chips that can hold toppings without breaking; thicker chips work best for optimal crunch)
2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend for a flavorful mix; using freshly grated cheese will enhance melting quality)
1 can (15 ounces) black beans, rinsed and drained (you can substitute with pinto beans if desired; both options add protein and fiber)
1 jalapeño, sliced (optional for spice; remove seeds for less heat, and consider pickled jalapeños for added tang)
1 ripe avocado, diced (for creaminess and a fresh taste; choose avocados that yield slightly to pressure for the best flavor)
1 cup pico de gallo or salsa (homemade or store-bought for convenience; fresh pico adds a vibrant touch)
¼ cup sour cream (plain Greek yogurt can be used as a healthier alternative; it's equally creamy with added protein)
¼ cup sliced green onions (adds a nice crunch and flavor; use both the white and green parts for color)
Cilantro for garnish (optional; adds a burst of freshness and complements the other flavors)
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes.
While preheating, arrange half of the tortilla chips in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese evenly over the chips.
Distribute half of the black beans and jalapeño slices (if using) evenly over the cheese.
Cook the nachos in the air fryer for 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Carefully remove the nachos and repeat the process with the remaining chips, cheese, beans, and jalapeños.
Once all the nachos are cooked, stack them on a serving plate, and generously top with diced avocado, pico de gallo, sour cream, and green onions.
Garnish with cilantro if desired, and serve immediately.
