Ingredients
Scale:
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Royal icing or colored sprinkles for decorating
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Flatten each ball slightly using the bottom of a glass or a cookie stamp to achieve a button shape.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden brown.
Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, decorate with royal icing or sprinkles as desired.
