There's something undeniably comforting about a warm slice of Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake. This delightful treat combines the rich, decadent flavor of chocolate chips with the soft, moist texture of a classic coffee cake, making it perfect for breakfast or as a sweet afternoon snack.
Ingredients
Scale:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
½ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking dish thoroughly.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the sour cream. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.
Fold in ¾ cup of the chocolate chips gently.
Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth it out evenly.
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and remaining chocolate chips, along with the chopped nuts if using. Sprinkle this mixture over the batter.
Top with the remaining batter, spreading it gently.
Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
