These maple cinnamon rolls are a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional rolls, made with pure maple syrup and honey for natural sweetness. They are soft, gooey, and perfect for brunch or cozy breakfasts.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
1/2 cup milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for greasing)
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/4 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs, preferably at room temperature
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed tightly
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon, freshly ground for better flavor
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 cup powdered sugar, sifted to avoid lumps
3 tablespoons milk or cream, adjust for desired consistency
2 tablespoons honey, can be substituted with maple syrup for extra flavor
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, instant yeast, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
In a separate bowl, mix the warmed milk, melted butter, maple syrup, honey, and eggs until fully incorporated.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until combined.
Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release excess air, and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
Spread the softened butter for the filling evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.
Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log, pinching the seams to seal.
Slice the roll into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while the rolls rise. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk or cream, and honey until smooth.
Once baked, remove from the oven and drizzle with the glaze while still warm. Serve fresh.
